Windsor Boys School tamed the Tideway Scullers Championship Course on March 25 to win two of the titles that were up for grabs in the 2025 Schools’ Head of the River Competition.
On a perfect day for racing with barely a breeze, more than 300 crews took to the famous stretch of water to contest a variety of category races.
Hundreds of boats then navigated the weaving bends of the Tideway, and it appears the battle for supremacy among the best junior rowing schools and clubs is healthier than ever before.
Windsor took first place in the Championship Quads race for the first time in three years, as they finished more than 16 seconds ahead of Leander Club.
“It has been a winter of minimal water time, but it has been great to get out there racing today at the Schools’ Head of the River,” said Mark Wilkinson, Director of Rowing.
“Travelling to Amsterdam [for the Heineken Roeivierkamp] last week helped build some race toughness, and the quad executed their race really well today, which is pleasing at this stage.
“Meanwhile, the J16 eights raced really well – they don’t do a lot of sweeps, but it was important to taste the Tideway and ensure our excellent coxes had a platform, too. Coming away with the gold was great.”
Windsor Boys School were also victorious in the Schools 1st J16 8+ category.
