Slough’s Hassan Ishaq is starting to make a name for himself on the professional boxing scene after winning his third straight pro bout in front of the TV cameras on Saturday night.

Nicknamed ‘Shooter’, Ishaq delivered another controlled, patient perfomance in his bout against Argentina’s Leonardo Baez on the undercard of the World Championship fight between Nick Ball and Brandon Figueroa in Liverpool, stepping up the intensity in the third round to secure a technical knockout win.

It was his third straight victory in the pro game and momentum is now building nicely for a fighter who appears to have an exciting future in the sport.

Having beaten Brandon Gallardo last summer in his first professional bout, and then exposed the deficiencies of Jake Pollard on the undercard for the Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley heavyweight clash at the O2 Arena on October 25, this was supposed to be another step up in quality of opponent for Ishaq, but he handled it like a pro.

Boxing patiently, but with real control in the first two rounds, he stepped things up in the third with a volley of unreturned blows and the referee was forced to step in and halt the fight.

His featherweight bout took place under the lights in front of a large audience at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool and in front of a global audience, with the evening being screened live on DAZN.

Having now established himself as one of Slough’s best fighters - following in the footsteps of another Slough native Adam Azim - Ishaq is now growing his reputation on the national stage.

He is known for being a disciplined, patient fighter with a knack for adapting to his opponents’ style in-fight to get the better of them.

This adaptability was on show again on Saturday as he worked his way around Baez defences before striking with real intensity in the third round. So far, none of his three professional fights have gone beyond the third round.

In October, he stopped the experienced Pollard with a couple of heavy blows in the second round, while Gallardo was taken down in three rounds in Bournemouth on his pro debut last summer.

Ishaq’s journey to the pros began at Eddie Richardson’s Lucky Gloves Gym in 2016.

He quickly rose through the amateur ranks to become a national champion, collecting numerous accolades on the way including gold at the Haringey Box Cup and NABGC Elite title.

Known for his Philly shell defence, technical style and in-fight adaptability, Ishaq is certainly one to watch for British boxing fans.
