Desborough's team of Nicola Jones, Jenny Morgan, Keith Roper, and Mark Essex have progressed to the final of the London & Southern Counties Mixed Fours competition after a solid 19-15 win over a strong Herts (Watford) team on their own green.

The victory tees up a final against either Worthing or Grattons on March 16.

The club are also going well in other events in the competition, with three semi-final matches to come in the Singles, Pairs and Challenge Shield, with the hope that all these teams join the Mixed Fours on finals day.

Desborough also travelled to Portsmouth this week to take on Victory IBC and went down to a narrow six-shot defeat after getting off to a shaky start.

The visitors were eventually beaten 113-119 over the six rinks but the captains decided to call it an honourable draw. The rinks skipped by John Davies and Roger Wyatt managed to return winning scorecards, but top rink came from a superb display by Brian Bushell, Val Wyatt, June Palmer, and Dave Perriman who won 30 – 8.

Desborough welcomed touring side Melton IBC to Green Lane and an entertaining afternoon of bowls resulted in a 45-shot victory for the hosts (156-111).

The rinks skipped by Kel Crump, Alan Speller and Bruce Adams all returned winning scorecards, but the hard-luck story went to the rink skipped by Roger Wyatt who scored a hot-shot during the game and looked favourites to take top rink. But a last end to forget meant that honour went to Dave Turner, Sue Page, Alan Jones and Tony Buckley who won 27 – 10.

Desborough welcomed Herga IBC to Green Lane in a rare visit for their opponents, and the visitors marked it with a 24-shot victory (71-96). The rink skipped by Helen Payne managed a draw and Jackie Sandal's rink edged their game 13-12, leaving top rink honours to Joanna Bolam, Roy Palmer and Gill Konrad who won by 10 shots, 19 – 9.
