Royal Ascot Golf Club has been named one of the top clubs in the country at the recent England Golf Awards.
The club earned its place on the shortlist after putting in a submission which focused on its ‘excellence in engaging the community, encouraging people to learn to play and providing a quality experience to new and existing members’.
The club has also had major investment in the course and clubhouse over the past year and successfully campaigned to attract new members and junior players to the sport.
The England Golf Club awards were held at Manchester’s Midland Hotel last week, and staff from the club travelled up for a gala dinner to mark the centenary of the founding of the England Golf Union.
Stephen Nicholson, general manager of Royal Ascot Golf Club, said: “While naturally disappointed to not clinch the top prize, it is still a remarkable achievement to be named as one of the top clubs in the country.
“Our development efforts in recent years have seen us successfully deliver our strategy to improve facilities, be at the heart of our community and attract new starters to the sport.
“This has seen substantial investments in our course and clubhouse, a packed social calendar, cooperation with schools, businesses and sports clubs and growing junior, young adult and New to Golf sections.
“The result has been a more engaged and diverse membership profile than ever before, and we can now be confident in our status as a premier course in the UK as well as a go-to social venue locally.
“I would like to thank everyone at the club for their hard work and support, and we should be proud of what we have achieved.”
Founded in 1887, the club was granted Royal status by Queen Victoria and is set in 150 acres of woodland in Windsor Great Park off Winkfield Road, adjacent to the world-famous racecourse.
