Zach Callinanwon the Top Boy competition
--
Maidenhead Marlins Swimming Club delivered a performance ‘way beyond expectation’ at the recent county championships in High Wycombe.
With Zach Callinan dominating the Top Boy competition – an aggregate of points for all events – to win by a record-breaking margin, the Marlins enjoyed their best results at the championships.
The men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team also retained their county champion status, setting a record time in the process, while the u10s/11s age group won three of the four events they were entered into.
Performance coach, Alex Vine said: “There were some fantastic performances across the two weekends of racing. The swimmers applied themselves brilliantly to their races and the team spirit and support they showed for each other was a joy to behold.
The event was staged at the Handycross Leisure Centre in High Wycombe and alongside the men’s team’s dominance of the 4x100m freestyle relay there were several other stand-out senior performances.
Johnny Ireland won the 200m backstroke while Nathan Potter also stood top of the rostrum after claiming victory in the 200m individual freestyle.
Louise Ashford won the 800m individual freestyle and Adrian Ting took first place in the 50m individual freestyle.
Special mentions must also go to Lucas Bryant for his outstanding performance to finish third in the 800m individual freestyle, beating the u15s age group record in the process.
At a junior level the Marlins were celebrating success for Zach Callinan, who took the 200m individual fly title on the way to being crowned Top Boy. Igor Kusmierz won the 100m and 50m individual breaststroke events and Charlotte Burfitt also doubled up to win the 200m and 100m breaststroke.
The Marlins also came away from the event with an impressive haul of age group medals, including 54 golds, 46 silvers and 33 bronze.
Performance coach Paul Lloyd thanked Leisure Focus and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) for their help enabling the club’s recent achievements.
