A thoroughly deserved win at Edgware Town on Saturday moved Holyport off the bottom of the table with just four matches to play, and they'll be hoping for some home comforts, with three of them at Summerleaze, starting with Reading City this Saturday.
Port know they must finish off the bottom of the Combined Counties Premier Division North to be sure of avoiding the drop and Saturday's unexpected 2-0 win at Edgware, where Ashley Hunt netted twice, combined with Windsor's thumping win over CB Hounslow United, saw the two sides exchange places.
Now all Port have to do is better Hounslow's results between now and the end of the season, although boss Derek Sweetman knows that will be much easier said than done.
“It was a well-deserved win and a very good team performance,” he said. “I don't think anyone would have said we didn't deserve it.
“We're by no means finished yet of course, and we've still got some very tough games to play, including second placed Southall away on the final day.
“We've said to the lads we have four cup finals, and we now need to do something we haven't done for a while which is pick up back-to-back wins.
“We need to find the secret ingredient which allows us to put two positive results together and that would give us the little cushion we need.
“The other teams also have difficult run ins, there are not that many easy games, which means it could go down to the final game which is not what we want really. But, if we play as well as we did on Saturday, I think we can win our next game.”
Port are now a point above CB Hounslow with a game in hand and a further three points behind Wokingham & Emmbrook - who they've still to play and could be drawn back into the reckoning.
“We've got the confidence to know we can go toe-to-toe with theses sides, but you have to add in the factor that we're fighting a relegation battle, which adds its own pressures.
“We also have a few young players in the team and it's a learning curve for them. On Saturday, the young players were excellent, but I couldn’t single anyone out. I was chuffed to pieces with the work rate and the desire. That’s what you need to win football matches, and if you don’t have it, you don’t win, it’s simple as that.”
