The Italian Continental Shop is sponsoring a new football team in Maidenhead, and the hope is together they’ll find the recipe for success both on and off the field.
The Maidenhead Italian Football Club played their first ever match a few weeks ago, taking on a group of ex semi-professionals from Spain in a friendly at Desborough College.
Afterwards the players and spectators headed into Maidenhead to enjoy the local eateries and hospitality. The club’s principal sponsors feel this new team can ‘enrich the life of the town’.
Certainly, their plans for match days are a little different. The shop in Denmark Street plans to host matchday tastings and events, featuring authentic Italian produce.
The name of the club might suggest otherwise, but the team comprises players from across the continent who’ve made their home in Maidenhead. They include English, Irish, Portuguese, French and Greek players as well as Italians.
The team is looking to recruit new players from Maidenhead and currently trains twice a week at Braywick Leisure Centre, on Thursday evenings at 9pm and on Sunday mornings at 8am.
The Italian Continental Shop is clearly passionate about the partnership and said the store will have a visible presence at matches, both from banners at the games and through the team’s front of shirt logo.
On their website they celebrated the creation of the team with the following words: “There’s a special kind of magic when passion for culture and sport comes together and that’s exactly what we’re celebrating here in Maidenhead,” the blog read.
“We’re thrilled to announce that The Italian Shop in Maidenhead has proudly stepped up as an official sponsor of the Maidenhead Italian Football Club which is a partnership rooted in heritage, community spirit, and a shared love of everything Italian.
“The Maidenhead Italian Football Club is a hub for Italian and local families alike, bringing people together on the pitch each week. The Italian Shop’s support helps the club grow, compete, and build opportunities for players of all ages.
“Whether you’re grabbing your weekly groceries, planning an Italian dinner night, or stocking up on meats and cheeses, the shop now represents even more than quality food, it stands for passion and local pride.
“This partnership is a perfect example of how local businesses and grassroots sport can support one another to make something bigger than the sum of its parts.
“Through shared Italian heritage and a dedication to community, the Italian Shop and the Maidenhead Italian Football Club are proving that when we come together, everyone wins.”
