A new Asian fusion restaurant has opened on Burnham’s High Street.

Serving both Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, Em Pho will offer eat-in and takeaway options for lunches and dinners six days a week.

It is a new venture for nail salon owner Shaz Anwar, who took the inspiration for a Vietnamese and Chinese blended restaurant from his wife.

He said: “This is my first restaurant. I have my nail salons in Burnham, Farnham Common and Gerrards Cross and when the shop became available my wife said to me ‘why don’t you try and open a Vietnamese restaurant?’

“My wife is from Vietnam and when we go out for meals there isn’t anything Vietnamese in

the local area so that’s why we decided to go for it.”

The name Em Pho is a tribute to a Vietnamese term of endearment, ‘em’, and a popular noodle dish, ‘pho’.

There is plenty of the latter on the menu as well as appetisers such as crispy fried squid, pork ribs in honey sauce, aromatic duck and mains such as seabass in Vietnamese sauce, stir fried king prawns with lemongrass and grilled lamb chops with black pepper sauce.

As well as rice and noodle dishes there are vegetarian and vegan dishes on request.

Em Pho will also serve soft drinks and alcohol, including cocktails. Since opening over a week ago reactions from locals have been positive.

“It’s been really well received in just a few short days,” said Shaz.

“The restaurant is in a nice location and I think people like the fact that we’ve got a takeaway option as well as a restaurant.

“Most customers know about the pho dish, because that is the famous one, and if they don’t know then they can come in and try something new plus you can mix and match or you can have just Vietnamese or just Chinese food.

“Chinese food is more fried and more grilling and Vietnamese is more noodles and soup based and more green vegetables and more herbs in the dishes.

“What they have in common is the spring rolls.”

Em Pho is open Tuesday-Sunday, 12pm-2.30pm and 5pm-10.30pm.
