Maidenhead winger Sam Barratt has been on trial with League 1 side Bristol Rovers this week and could be set to play in their friendly against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has been running the rule over Barratt, who’s impressed supporters despite making only a handful of appearances for the Magpies over the past two seasons.
Barratt, 19, played in Rovers’ pre-season friendly matches at Bath City and Weston-super-Mare last week and started their 2-0 friendly defeat against Exeter City on Saturday.
The predominantly left-sided player, who was invited for a trial at Crystal Palace last season, has impressed the Rovers’ boss enough to have his trial extended until after the side’s match with Villa on Wednesday.
The Magpies signed Barratt from Hellenic League side Bracknell Town but his time on the pitch for them has been limited by the form and performances of Harry Pritchard on the left side of midfield.
The teenager has though shown flashes of genius, including a couple of sumptuous finishes, while he almost single-handedly rescued a point for United with two second half goals - one an overhead kick, the other direct from a corner kick - in last season’s 3-2 defeat at Margate.
