MP Theresa May helped with marshalling as hundreds took to Maidenhead Office park and the surrounding streets on Good Friday for the 69th Easter Ten.
The annual event organised by Maidenhead Athletic Club (MAC) saw approximately 1,000 spectators come along to show their support and cheer on more than 900 runners.
After unsettling weather the night before, the races kicked off at 8.30am with children in reception to year four taking on the Easter Half Mile around closed roads in the office park.
They were shortly followed by youngsters in years five to eight who completed the Easter Mile from 8.45am in the same location.
Sandra Koch, a volunteer who was responsible for the race village and will be race director for next year’s event, said: “From early on it was quite a bustling little race village.
“We were really lucky with the weather. [It] actually dried up a bit and the sun came out as well.
“It was very busy and the sense of excitement for the runners [was] in the air. It was a really good morning.
She added: “It’s always really good fun to watch and all the parents being all excited as well and supporting [the runners].
“At 8.45am, the second children’s race started which was equally as good.”
From 9.30am, it was time for the adult runners to take to the streets for the 10-mile Easter Ten.
The race saw them take on a flat course through roads including Westacott Way and Bottle Lane and the countryside, before making their way back to the office park.
Runners were given a two-and-a-half hours to complete the route, which is fully marshalled by MAC, including MP Theresa May.
Sandra added: “Everything went really well. [We had] very strong running.”
A prize giving ceremony took place following the event and recipients were given a wooden engraved medal alongside a voucher for Runners’ Retreat.
Nicholas Torry was the overall male winner and topped the male 40 plus age category with a time of 50 minutes and 56 seconds.
While Kate Rennie was the overall female winner and came first in the 50 plus age category with a time of one hour and 53 minutes.
Charities being supported by this year’s event include Thames Hospice, The Link Foundation, and Maidenhead-based Alzheimers Dementia Support, and funds are being split equally between the charities and MAC’s junior section.
A host refreshments including cake, biscuits, coffee and tea were also donated for the event, which had several sponsors, some of which included Bakedd, Maidenhead Aquatics and Runners’ Retreat.
