A children’s hospice in Maidenhead is asking people to unlock a Christmas full of special experiences for an inspiring three-year-old through its Christmas Appeal.
Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service in Snowball Hill is launching this year’s appeal on Wednesday, November 13 and shares the story of Elikai from Maidenhead who ‘inspires everyone with his strength and resilience despite living with challenges’.
Elikai was born with a congenital brain abnormality which prevented his brain from fully developing.
His parents, Annicka and Politon, were told that he was unlikely to survive the pregnancy, but against all odds, he has been ‘thriving beyond expectations’.
Described as ‘a really happy and social little boy’, Elikai ‘lights up every room with his smile’.
But for his family, the future remains uncertain, with each Christmas being a treasured time.
Like many others, the hospice – which provides support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families – has been a ‘lifeline’ for Elikai and his parents.
The services provided have given Annicka and Politon the chance to make the most of each day they have with Elikai.
Annicka said: “We feel so blessed that Elikai can come to the hospice.
“What we love the most is that Elikai is so happy when he visits and the activities he does are helping him to develop.
“Alexander Devine makes such a difference to our lives.
“There is nowhere or no one else for us.”
This festive season, the hospice is asking the community to unlock a magical Christmas for families like Elikai’s.
Donations will aid essential care services which support and present a host of possibilities to ‘families facing unimaginable challenges’.
The donations will help fund critical support, from clinical care to enriching activities including a splash session in the hospice’s hydrotherapy pool.
Anne Bajorek, director of fundraising at Alexander Devine, said: “Through this year’s Christmas Appeal, we hope to raise vital funds to continue supporting children like Elikai.
“Every penny goes directly towards making a real difference, helping us provide the specialist care that families like Elikai’s depend on, especially at this time of year.”
