Maidenhead United Women slipped to ninth in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South West table after going down to a 3-0 defeat away to Moneyfields on Sunday.
The hosts - who had slipped to a surprisingly heavy 4-0 defeat at Fulham in the FA Cup the previous weekend - controlled this match from the outset and deservedly claimed all three points thanks to first half goals from Megan Fox and Daisy Beard and a second half strike from Ali Hall.
The visitors competed reasonably well in the opening 15 minutes, but they fell behind in the 18th minute when Fox fired home her sixth goal of the season from a free kick.
Beard went close to a second for the home side a few minutes later with a long-range attempt that was parried away by Kody Cornish, however, she did eventually get on the scoresheet when she tapped home from close range in the 40th minute.
The Moneys then made it 3-0 shortly after the hour mark when Hall smashed the ball home from range.
From there they controlled the game and limited Maidenhead’s opportunities. They also went close to a fourth goal when Shannon Albuery smacked the outside of the post in stoppage time.
The result keeps Moneyfields hot on the heels of second placed Bristol Rovers in third. Both sides have 16 points with Swindon Town leading the way with six wins from six in the league.
Maidenhead are ninth, just a couple of points outside of the relegation places, and in need of some form having lost their last four in all competitions. They are now without a win since their 3-0 home success over Worthing back on August 31.
They will hope for better luck when Bridgwater United visit York Road on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off) in the FA Women’s National League Plate. They were unfortunate to be held to a 1-1 draw by Bridgwater when the sides met in the league a few weeks ago.
Dave Kitson’s side resume their league campaign at home to eighth placed Abingdon United on Wednesday, October 29 (7.45pm kick-off).
