The Princess of Wales welcomed the England Women’s Rugby team to Windsor Castle on Thursday to celebrate their World Cup win in September last year.

Despite the wet weather, the team looked in good spirits as they entered the historic castle for the reception.

England’s women were victorious in last year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup final as they beat Canada 33-13 and lifted the trophy at home at Twickenham.

At Thursday’s reception The Princess, dressed in a red suit, welcomed the Red Roses into the castle and spent time speaking with team members.

She was shown the World Cup trophy.

Among the attendees of the winning team was Abby Dow, who grew up in Maidenhead and is a former junior at Maidenhead Rugby and Football Club (RFC).

Dow announced her retirement from professional rugby in November.

Fellow team member Maud Muir, a former women’s and girls’ coach at Maidenhead RFC, was also in attendance.

The team also enjoyed a tour of the castle during the event and posed for a formal group photo with The Princess.
