The owners of a tailoring business in Eton High Street said they are ‘absolutely thrilled’ to have won this year’s Christmas Window Competition.

The competition by the Eton Community Association has been running for several years and sees businesses in the High Street adorn their shop windows with a range of displays and decorations.

Long-standing tailors Welsh and Jefferies and Weatherill Bros is run by Tufy Kazan and his wife Nicola, after the pair took over from Tufy’s parents Elie and Suzanne Kazan in 2023.

The business provides uniforms to Eton College students.

This year, the pair booked snow spray and airbrush artist Scott Wilcock to design their festive window.

Scott, who has more than one million followers and over 24 million likes on his account Snowgraffiti on TikTok, visited Tufy and Nicola in early November to create the Tailor Snow Theme artwork.

The piece, created using white spray paint, depicts Tufy measuring up Father Christmas for a suit.

Nicola said: “He just does everything freehand, it's amazing.

“We tried to book him last year, but we couldn’t. He just gets so booked up.

“[So, we] booked him in August and we just got in.”

She called Scott’s design ‘absolutely phenomenal’ and said it is popular with passers-by who notice it in the window.

“It’s a talking point, that’s for sure,” she added.

Other displays across the High Street included an 80s-themed Christmas from Eton T-Shirt Co. who opted for coloured lights, foil decorations across the ceiling and plenty of tinsel.

The Christopher Hotel Eton’s inspiration for this year’s design came from ‘making the most of the lovely big window’, general manager Graeme Read said.

“Our inspiration comes from making the most of the lovely big window.

“It just wouldn’t look right without a tree in it.

“This year the owner, Elaine Booth, found a rotating tree topper designed like a fairground carousel.

“A vintage touch for a vintage town,” he added.

Judging with Royal borough Eton and Castle ward councillors Julian Tisi, Devon Davies and Mark Wilson took place on Thursday and Welsh and Jeffries was chosen as the winner.

Reacting to the news, Nicola said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Eton High Street Christmas window competition.

“We love our High Street, and we love our community, so to dress our window and watch it make people smile when walking past is all we really wanted.

“To have the opportunity to brighten up the High Street along with the other traders, is such a great tradition which we want to keep going.”

Luxe Flowers, The Christopher Hotel Eton, Don Beni, The Barker Gallery, Thaxter & Lovelock and the Eton Information Centre were commended for their displays.

Ros Rivaz, chair of Eton Community Association, said: “So many fantastic Eton businesses and residents decorate their premises each year, ensuring that with our Christmas lights, mini Christmas trees and decorations, Eton High Street is welcoming to those who live, work in or visit Eton.

“We are honoured that all of our ward councillors came to judge the Best Christmas Window display.

“They really struggled to make their choices thanks to the amazing displays.

“And afterwards they popped into the Eton Information Centre and thanked them for the amazing support the team provide to residents, businesses and visitors.”
