A series of pop-up toy shops in the Nicholsons Centre in Maidenhead have raised more than £23,000 for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

A team of volunteers from the Maidenhead Fundraising Group for Alexander Devine, led by Helen and Richard Johnson, were on hand to greet customers as they browsed the wide selection of items.

A variety of new and pre-loved books, toys and games, many of which had been donated by the public and restored by the same volunteer team, were on offer.

A pop-up shop was open during the festive season last year and this was followed by another three-day discount event across January 30, 31 and February 1.

Through the team’s efforts, a total of £23,600 has been raised for the Snowball Hill-based hospice which provides support and specialist care to babies, children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and their families across Berkshire and the surrounding counties.

The volunteer group worked ‘tirelessly’ to collect, organise and restore a range of pre-loved toys to transform them into treasures for families to across the community.

Helen Johnson said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the results of our fundraising efforts.

“The response from the public has been heartwarming, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shopped, and supported our mission.

“This significant contribution will aid Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice in providing specialist care and vital support to children and families across Berkshire.”

Debbie Tonkinson, volunteer development manager at Alexander Devine, said: “Organising a six-week pop-up shop is a monumental task, and we are so grateful for the phenomenal dedication and many hours kindly given by our amazing volunteers.

“The success of these events is a testament to their hard work and passion for our charity.

“Additionally, we extend our gratitude to all who have generously donated items or visited our shop over the last few months.

“Your kindness is making a significant difference in providing vital care and support to local children and their families.”

The funds will directly benefit Alexander Devine, enabling them to provide vital support and specialist care.
