A Slough-based knitting and crochet group has created a display for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

The display by Knit Your Socks Off features a life-size ‘Tommy’ Solider and red poppies to honour the 314 soldiers from Slough who lost their lives in World War One and World Ward Two.

Purple, black and white poppies made by members of the group with the support of the team at Slough BID, also feature in the display.

The display, located in the Global Education Trust bookshop in The Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre, features a QR code where shoppers can make a donation directly to The Poppy Appeal.

Sbba Siddique, co-founder of Knit Your Socks Off, said: “Wearing a red poppy was inspired by the fields of poppies that grew where many of the battles were fought.

“Remembrance Day honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and our way of life and we stand united across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
