Burnham 0, Thatcham Town 11

The true extent of the problems facing temporary coaches Luther Blissett and Paul Toms were illustrated by the Burnham’s 11-0 thrashing by Thatcham Town last night.

With talk of the players being unsettled after the club's sacking of Dave Tuttle earlier in the week, the Blues produced an embarrassing display to hand the Kingfishers a double digit victory.

Striker Shane Cooper-Clarke and Callum Willmouth both completed first half hat-tricks and the ruthless visitors kept up the punishment after the break, slotting five more goals beyond Burnham's hapless defence.

It leaves the Blues rock-bottom of the Hellenic Premier Division with no wins, no points and a minus 27 goal difference after five matches.

Whoever the club brings in to replace Tuttle will have a huge job on his hands to reverse the club's spiralling fortunes and save them from a third relegation in three seasons.

Last night Burnham’s resistance lasted all of 12 minutes before Cooper-Clarke put the Kingfishers in front. He nodded home his second from close range minutes later and completed his hat-trick by nut-megging the Blues’ keeper on the half-hour mark.

Then it was Willmouth’s turn to score a first half hat-trick, drilling home three fantastic strikes to leave the punch-drunk hosts 6-0 down at the break.

The punishment didn't end there as Cooper-Clarke netted his fourth from the penalty spot, Kylon Lewis slotted an eighth on the hour mark, Aaron Parfitt made it nine and Mark Hughes slid home Thatcham's 10th as the match lost all semblance of a contest. The final insult arrived in the 87th minute when Lewis latched onto a bouncing through-ball and chipped home number 11.
