This month, Thames Valley Police’s Windsor and Maidenhead local policing area (LPA) welcomes back Chief Inspector David Washington as he takes up his new role as deputy commander.
Chief Insp Washington started his career with the force in Windsor and Maidenhead LPA when he transferred from Cleveland Police in 2007.
More recently, he has worked in the Joint Operations Unit, leading teams providing specialist operational support and training across a wide range of disciplines including public order, Taser and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear).
With more than 23 years of policing experience, Chief Insp Washington has worked on several high-profile events across the force including The King and Queen’s Coronation, Reading Festival, Henley Regatta and the 2023 Artificial Intelligence Safety Summit at Bletchley Park.
He also played a key role in the policing operation surrounding the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Windsor.
On his appointment, Chief Insp Washington said: “From my most recent role in the Joint Operations Unit across Thames Valley Police and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, I know the value of collaborative work and how together, we can deliver greater results than each of us alone.
“It is great to be back working with such dedicated colleagues, partners and stakeholders in the protection of our communities and I look forward to meeting with new and familiar faces over the coming weeks and months.”
