A traditional lion dance parade will visit Windsor for the first time next month to mark the start of the Lunar New Year.
Windsor Royal Shopping Centre will be transformed for the ‘Year of the Dragon’ with a series of entertainment planned in the royal town on February 10 to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Around 36 performers from the Eagle Claw Kung Fu School UK, established in Maidenhead in 1997, have teamed up with the Royal Borough to bring the Chinese Lion dance parade to Windsor.
The event which also features a Kung Fu performance and thunder drumming, aims to bring people from all communities together to enjoy ‘a loud vibrant and exciting Chinese cultural event that is thrilling to all’.
The traditional Lion Dance will start at 3pm in the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre, and the parade will feature four lions as well as ribbon-twirling dragons and musicians.
Cllr Joshua Reynolds, Cabinet member for communities and leisure, said: “We’re very fortunate in the Royal Borough to have several communities who mark Lunar New Year.
“The lion dance through town and associated crafts are a fun and colourful opportunity for everyone of any age to come together to celebrate Lunar New Year and the diverse cultures represented locally.
“I thank all those who have supported the event and wish everyone a very happy and prosperous Year of the Dragon.”
The Royal Borough Lunar New Year Celebrations are supported by People to Places, who are providing community transport to the Lion Dance team between Windsor and Maidenhead.
