Children 'paint with scissors' at Easter art club

An Easter art club gave children the opportunity to learn about the skills of legendary artists such as Vincent van Gogh.

Clare Wills and Andrea Cranmer, both teachers at The Colleton Primary School, ran the Busy Brushes Art Club at The Charvil Piggott Primary School in Park Lane, Charvil, over three days.

Classes began on Tuesday, April 7, and finished on Thursday, April 9. Subjects covered included the work of Van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky.

Andrea said: “We were 'painting with scissors' just like Matisse, exploring concentric shapes with Kandinsky and understanding movement with brush strokes as Van Gogh did.”

Lessons included a display of the artists' work before the children attempted to practise the different styles.

Clare said: “It's been a real pleasure to see how everyone's creativity has been sparked.

“The work that's been created is outstanding.”
