HOLYPORT 127019-1

A past Remembrance Sunday Ceremony at Holyport War Memorial.

Holyport’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday, November 10, has had to be cancelled due to gas works in the area.

Last month (September 19), it was announced that Holyport Road would be set for an eight-week closure.

Cadent Gas Limited – which looks after the gas pipes in the area – informed residents of plans to divert its gas mains at the junction of Holyport Road and the A308.

This is part of road improvements by Windsor and Maidenhead council at the Holyport Roundabout junction, driven by increased development in the area and safety concerns on the roundabout.

This has caused significant disruption - causing the cabinet member for highways at RBWM to apologise but stress there is ‘not much we can do.’

This has thrown a spanner in the works for the Remembrance Parade, because while the gas realignment works are in progress, no other road closures can occur on the designated diversion route.

This includes Holyport Road and Holyport Street to the A330.

Alternatives were considered by The Royal British Legion, said Bray Parish Council – but it was decided that the War Memorial is the only appropriate location for a Remembrance Parade.

The public is welcome to join in the Remembrance Parade in Bray, also on November 10. It will commence with a church service at St Michael’s Church.

The congregation is expected to be there for 10:45am, and there will be a two-minute silence at 11am.
