Plans for 59 homes at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals site

Fears over traffic chaos on the Bath Road in Taplow have returned after plans including a new 59-home development and three-storey office block were drafted.

Taylor Wimpey hopes to build 55 houses and four flats or maisonettes at the former Wyeth Pharmaceuticals site in Huntercombe Lane South.

A separate application, submitted by Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Property Trust, was approved in November for the demolition of the greenbelt site's empty buildings and the construction of a 10,000 sq m office building.

At a planning committee meeting on Wednesday last week South Bucks District Council (SBDC) chose not to object to the latest plans but asked Slough Borough Council to seek assurances from Transport for Bucks that there would be 'no adverse impacts on the roads and their users'.

It is the latest in a string of proposed developments along the already busy Bath Road - including controversial plans for a new Tesco at The Bishop Centre, 66 homes at SGT Garages in Station Road and 240-300 houses and flats in Mill Lane.

Euan Felton, from Taplow Parish Council's planning committee, said: "It's yet another thing accessing the Bath Road. It just continues to make the road more and more crowded and adds to the argument that something ought to be done with it."

Although SBDC approved the office plans, the latest development falls within Slough Borough Council's control.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said the application was fulfilling a 'recognised requirement for high-quality housing in the area'.

A decision from Slough Borough Council will not be made before February 27.

Work could start within three months if approved and would take about 18 months to complete.
