Planning

A stone masonry company has lodged an application to replace a building at a former garden centre in Iver.

Since sequiturs were hung up at Berkshire Garden Centre in Sutton Lane, the site has been operated by stone company London Stone Ltd.

Slough Borough Council issued an enforcement notice for the site over a breach of planning rules in its change of use from a garden centre to storage and distribution.

The Government Planning Inspectorate ruled the council had been correct to issue the notice last year.

However, London Stone had also appealed a separate decision, which it won in 2024, to give it permission to change into a stone storage and distribution site.

The plans advertised in this week’s public notices involve replacing an existing covered storage building, with a new building with shuttered doors for lorry access.

The building formerly containing Berkshire Garden Centre would remain in place, the plans said.

A planning statement said: “The building will generate employment and [is] located within the built-up part of the site.”

It said, ‘the perceived addition is small scale, minimal and will not adversely affect the character of the Green Belt, nearby properties or the locality in general’.

Road closures

Slough Borough Council has warned drivers of an impending road closure in Burnham.

Part of Huntercombe Lane North, from its junction with Missenden Gardens to 34 Huntercombe Lane North, is set close in early October.

The closure is set to come into force at just after midnight on October 5 (Sunday, 00.01am) and is expected to last until midnight on October 6 (Monday, 23.59pm).

No traffic will be allowed to travel through that section of road while work is ongoing, although the council said access will be maintained for local residents and businesses.

Otherwise, a diversion will be in place for the duration of the closure.

Another road closure will see traffic stopped from using part of Edinburgh Avenue in Slough for a month in 2026.

The road will be closed between its junction with Bestobell Road and Farnham Road from 30 March until April 27.

The council said closure was needed to allow works on or near to the road to take place.
