Campaigners fighting plans for a film studio near Marlow want £75,000 to hire a barrister to help sway deputy PM Angela Rayner's verdict on the project.

Save Marlow’s Greenbelt has called its supporters to an emergency meeting for Wednesday to discuss plans for the months ahead as the January 21 deadline for the inquiry looms closer.

The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local (MHCLG) Government has recalled Marlow Film Studios, meaning Angela Rayner will make a final decision on the plans.

A post on the group’s Justgiving page said: “We desperately need funds to fight the planning appeal submitted by the film studio developers, which will be heard in Jan 2025.

“These funds are required for barrister representation and other consultant experts, to ensure that we are represented in a robust manner. Your support is vital.”

Marlow Film Studios’ developer Dido Property Ltd appealed to the Planning Inspectorate over Buckinghamshire Council’s decision in May to refuse planning permission.

Since the appeal was lodged, Deputy PM Angela Rayner has weighed in and recalled the project giving her the final say on permission.

A letter to Buckinghamshire Council’s planning portal said the decision had been made because the project was of ‘major importance having more than local significance’.

However, Mrs Rayner’s decision must consider planning rules and the verdict of an Inspector following an inquiry – which is set to take place over 16 days beginning on January 21.

Save Marlow’s Greenbelt has appealed for help to raise £75,000 to fund a barrister to help present its case at the inquiry.

The group is a Rule 6 participant in the inquiry, allowing it to cross-examine evidence presented by Dido Property Ltd – the appellant.

Save Marlow’s Greenbelt supporters include councillors and residents living in the areas affected by the film studio development.

Its emergency meeting takes place on Wednesday in Liston Hall, Marlow at 7.30pm.
