Live blog: Maidenhead United vs Eastleigh

The concerning thing for Maidenhead this afternoon is the lack of chances they've created. I can think of only two decent ones across the 90 plus minutes. They've been largely nullified by Eastleigh on their own patch, 0-2

90' Another long stoppage. This time for Deji Sotona who is stretchered off. Looks like quite a bad one to sour the Spitfires' afternoon 0-2

90' There will be 12 additional minutes here for all of the stoppages second half. 0-2

Maidenhead press forward again and see a flurry of shots and passes blocked on the edge of the area.

89' Pettit and Ferguson are replaced by Brad Keetch and Joshua Johnson 0-2

86' Deji Sotona with a great run down the left. Showed his pace there. He played in Maguire, but he controls it poorly and it runs out of play. 0-2

83' Fourth change for the Spitfires. Shade, who has had a really good debut for the visitors is replaced.

Another corner for the Magpies which Smith sends in but it's headed over by McCoulsky. 0-2

81' Another decent chance. Smith again gets down the right and whips in a cross that Abrahams turns wide of the post. Better from the hosts over the past few minutes.

The attendance today is 1,379

80' Corner from Smith reaches Dyce. His low effort pings around and finds Ferguson, but he's not sharp enough to get a shot on goal and Eastleigh survive. 0-2

79' Poor delivery into the box from Casey Pettit. It runs through to McDonnell. They need more quality than they've shown today really. 0-2

75' There will be some stoppage time because of this, but Maidenhead have just over 15 minutes to try and salvage something from their opening league game. It doesn't look like happening to be honest. Clear cut chances have been few and far between from their perspective, but Eastleigh haven't exactly bossed this and are slightly fortunate to have such a lead. 0-2

70' The referee Jamie O'Connor looks to have pulled a muscle and receives some treatment. He made need to be replaced here. 0-2

69' Another change for Eastleigh.

65' The disjointed nature of the game isn't really helping the Magpies get back into this. It's far too stop start for their liking as the chasing side. 0-2

65' Heavy challenge from Corey Panter on Mitchell-Lawson. He collects a yellow card, but fans on that side were calling for a red!

59' Smith wins a dangerous free kick for the Magpies on the edge of the area. It's whipped in by Pettit but Ferguson's header drifts wide. 0-2

58' Change for the Magpies. Carvalho is replaced by Shawn McCoulsky. A change in shape as well perhaps? 0-2

Two changes for the Spitfires as well

52' Decent chance for the Magpies as Reece Smith escapes away on the right and gets into the box. His pull back very nearly reaches Mitchell-Lawson who can't quite get his shot away from just outside of the six yard box. Lokko follows up with a shot that McDonnell saves comfortably. 0-2 it remains.

49' Mitchell-Lawson wins a free kick on the right edge of the Eastleigh box. A goal back here would change the dynamic of this game considerably. Eastleigh manage to clear it and then win a free kick in the middle of their own half to relieve the pressure further 0-2.

48' A long throw causes problems for the Maidenhead defence. It's flicked on and Dyce is there to nod the ball away from under his own crossbar. 0-2

Play is back underway at York Road. Maidenhead must score first really if they're to get anything from their opening game. 0-2

45' Two additional minutes to play. Two awful goals conceded from a Maidenhead perspective.

Decent chance for De Havilland who heads wide from Carvalho's free-kick. A goal there would have changed things completely. 0-2

40' Maidenhead just wobbling a little here. They need to get into half-time. After a relatively even first half they find themselves 2-0 down and in danger of conceding a third. The Spitfires fans sing 'We're top of the league!' 0-2

39' GOAL Eastleigh. The Spitfires double their lead through Jake Vokins free kick. He whipped it in from the right hand side and no one was able to get a touch as it bounced into the far side of the net past Craig Ross. They've been a real threat from set pieces all season. 0-2

36' Shade makes a good run into the box but Dyce tracks him well and slides in to concede a corner. 0-1

34' Great chance for the Magpies to level matters. Mitchell-Lawson sends in a cross from the right after escaping free from his man but Abrahams wasn't able to redirect it goalwards and it goes behind for a goalkick. 0-1

33' GOAL Eastleigh. It's an own goal from Will De Havilland. Vokins whips the ball in and it bounces off De Havilland and squeezes past Ross on the line. 0-1

32' Zac Bell brings down Vokins and gives away a dangerous free kick on the left. Gets a yellow card as well. 0-0

27' Both teams still to settle here and lacking some rhythm, but it's quite open and entertaining. 0-0

22' McCallum - one of the league's top scorers last season - almost hooks the visitors in front at the back post from Quigley's cross. He missed with his first attempt but then acrobatically swung a leg at it again and sent the ball bouncing past Ross's near post. Decent effort but it remains 0-0

19' Eastleigh may just be edging this in terms of dangerous moments but it's very even. Maidenhead have broken quickly on the Spittires a couple of times. 0-0

16' A couple of nervy moments for Dyce on his competitive debut. One underhit pass to Lokko which was nearly seized upon and he also kicked the ball against his hand in the box. Don't think it was a penalty but the Eastleigh fans were appealing for it. Hopefully, will calm down from here. 0-0

12' Maidenhead have the ball in the net but it's ruled out. I'm not sure the Magpies did much wrong there. Mitchell-Lawson does brilliantly to beat his man and chip in a cross to the back post. Carvalho heads it back into the middle and Abrahams bundles it home on the line, but he's adjudged to have fouled McDonnell. Keepers get too much protection. 0-0

7' Reece Smith flashes a cross come shot across goal which McDonnell pushes over the bar. From the corner, De Havilland sends a looping header over the crossbar. 0-0

York Road showing its love for Mick Vogel and Darti Brown - who passed away recently.

3' Some uncertain defending from the Magpies as Quigley sends in a cross from the left and Tyrese Shade scrambled a shot at goal. He didn't really connect with it and Ross was able to save and United then cleared, but it was a scary moment for the hosts. 0-0

2' Smith sends in a dangerous corner, but it's well dealt with at the front post by Eastleigh.

1' We're underway at York Road. Maidenhead attacking the Canal End.

They've won an early corner from Pettit's cross. 0-0

14.55: The players walk out from the changing rooms. Maidenhead in their new black and white strip with red socks and black shorts. Eastleigh in all yellow this afternoon. There will be a minutes' applause for Mick Vogel before this game gets underway.

14.55: Kane Ferdinand and Tobi Sho-Silva walk across the pitch to take a seat in the stands. Not involved today through injury. The Magpies have named six players on the bench when they had seven spaces available.

14.50: The players have been through their pre-match routines and have returned to the dressing room.

An interesting and attacking line up for the Magpies. Ruben Carvalho makes his competitive debut alongside Nathan Ferguson in midfield, with fellow signings Zac Bell and Tyrese Dyce lining up at right back and left back alongside Will de Havilland and Kevin Lokko in defence. Goalkeeper Craig Ross captains the side. Tristan Abrahams will lead the line in attack with the likes of Reece Smith and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson looking to supply the ammunition from the flanks.

14.25: Assistant boss Ryan Peters was in a positive mood ahead of the start of the season. This week he spoke to the Advertiser's David Lee

14.25: Before kick off Maidenhead United and all at York Road will take a moment to remember one of their stalwart supporters and volunteers, Mick Vogel, who passed away recently.

14.20: And the visitors this afternoon line up as follows

14.20: The team news is already in at York Road. Here is how your Magpies line up in the curtain raiser

14.20: In the corresponding fixture last season, the Magpies won 3-2 with Reece Smith putting the game to bed with a third goal in the final 10 minutes

Maidenhead United kick off the 2024/25 National League season at home to the Spitfires this afternoon. Having held onto the core of last season's squad - with a few quality and exciting additions thrown into the mix over the summer - United are heading into their eighth consecutive campaign at this level with plenty of optimism. They won six of their seven friendly matches, conceding just twice in the process, and will be hoping to get off to a good start at York Road. Eastleigh come into the game as something of an unknown quantity having also made plenty of changes over the off-season. They do though feature one of the league's most exciting forward talents in the form of Paul McCallum.
