How to wear brogues this spring

You've seen them in the stores and magazines and you want to wear them but you're not quite sure how to pull it off. Brogues are still a strong trend this spring and there are even more styles available than ever. Try these tips on how to wear this chunky footwear with confidence and feminine flair.

• Expose the ankle and show some skin when wearing brogues, this will make your ankles and legs appear more delicate in contrast with the chunky nature of the design. If you're wearing trousers, then try rolling the cuff up to expose your ankles. The rolled cuff is a huge trend and will turn any pair of trousers into the hottest look of the moment. Otherwise, wear your brogues with cropped or capri style trousers.

• If you're looking for a little bit of sass and fifties flair, try pairing your brogues with some white cotton ankle socks. To complement this preppy look, wear a fitted or cropped blazer and/or a collared shirt. A touch of red lippy is perfect for this look.

• Choose your colour carefully. A natural or beige shade will help to elongate your leg line and make any outfit seem effortless and playful. While giving this masculine shoe a feminine touch, the patent or brighter coloured variety is more suited to the heavier and darker trends of winter fashions. A pair of bright red shiny brogues for example, would be perfect to brighten up a black trouser or woollen dress.
