Primmer’s injury time strike wins 11-goal thriller

WOODCOTE Development went through to the quarter-final of the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup following an 11-goal thriller last Saturday.

Sam Primmer’s hat-trick and Olly Pereira’s string of outstanding saves were the crucial factors in the win.

It took only 36 seconds for Woodcote to take the lead, Kartel Barlow found Primmer and the prolific striker found the net with ease.

After 25 minutes it was 2-0 with Primmer scoring at the second attempt from a through pass. Hanwell must have considered themselves unlucky to be behind as they created chances of their own only to be thwarted time after time by Pereira who made several one-on-one saves.

Things got worse for the visitors after 30 minutes when Kartel Barlow converted a long throw from close range. Hanwell signalled their refusal to lie down by pulling a goal back, but at one end Primmer missed a good chance to restore the three-goal advantage while at the other Pereira made yet another good save. On 40 minutes Hanwell made it 3-2 when a striker just beat Pereira to a through ball to score in an empty net.

Just before half-time Pereira once again came to Woodcote’s rescue to preserve the home lead. This was short-lived as Hanwell levelled the scores from the penalty spot just before the hour mark.

Woodcote restored their lead on 74 minutes when a Fraser Sharples cross deceived the keeper and went in off the far post. Woodcote were down to 10 men after Primmer was sin-binned and during that time Hanwell equalised yet again.

With less than five minutes to play Hanwell took the lead for the first time with a volley after the Woodcote defence failed to clear a corner.

Just 30 seconds later it was
5-5 thanks to a strike from the impressive Barlow. As the game entered added time and it looked as if the tie would be decided on penalties, one last opportunity fell to Primmer who completed his hat-trick to spark celebrations.
