National League: Maidenhead United v Forest Green Rovers

Darren Woolley

Full time: Maidenhead United 1, Forest Green Rovers 4

Maidenhead have been second best from the first minute this afternoon and Rovers thoroughly deserve their victory. They've probably been the best side United have faced here at York Road. They scored four but could have had five or six. Maidenhead don't often concede four at home but they've been flattered by the scoreline today and look set to drop into the bottom four as it stands.

90' Five minutes of stoppages here.

88' McAllister is played in on goal but Ross makes a fantastic save to stop Rovers from making it five. 1-4

85' Robson comes off for Lavinier for Rovers. 1-4

83' Rovers are seemingly opening the Maidenhead defence up at will at the moment. Could have scored a fifth here.

Cardwell has just bullied his way through and smashes the ball against the foot of the post.

81' Goal for Rovers. Beautifully taken by Jenks, who brings down a lovely throughball with his first touch and lifts it over Ross and into the back of the net with his second. A delightful goal. 1-4

79' Knowles is replaced by Teddy Jenks for the visitors.

79' Smith sends in another free kick from the left side of the penalty area but Ward rises well to claim. Before that Ferdinand was nearly presented with a golden chance,  but he couldn't nick the ball off the defender and run through on goal. 1-3

Attendance at York Road today is 1,256

75' Latty-Fairweather is replaced by Tobi Sho-Silva. And McCoulsky is replaced by Owen Cochrane. 1-3

73' Another free kick from Maidenhead is comfortably dealt with by the Rovers defence. 1-3

72' Joe Quigley is replaced by Harry Cardwell for Rovers. 1-3

Just as Maidenhead fans contemplated an unlikely comeback, the visitors restore their two goal cushion, and that will probably be that for the Magpies hopes this afternoon. 1-3

68' Goal for Forest Green Rovers. The visitors slam the door shut immediately. Maidenhead fail to clear the ball from a free kick properly and it's put back into the area for Moore Taylor to volley home on the stretch. 1-3

66' GOAL for Maidenhead. Wow, that came out of absolutely nothing. A deep free kick to the far post and De Havilland rises well to power a header past Ward. Could that be a momentum changer for the Magpies? 1-2

64' Rare shot from Maidenhead. Carvalho takes it on from distance and it flies about a foot wide of Jed Ward's post. That's the first time I've mentioned the Rovers keeper today which gives an idea of the game has gone for Maidenhead. 0-2

61' It's been a bit of a procession so far for Rovers. Maidenhead don't look like getting back into this at the moment. Very comfortable for the visitors who've taken the sting right out of the game. 0-2

All the teams below Maidenhead are currently picking up points.

57' Set piece for Maidenhead in a dangerous position. But they fail to make the most of it by overhitting the cross which goes out behind. 0-2

52' Rovers have contained Maidenhead so well so far. The home side are yet to really force a meaningful chance, other than Pettit's drive over the bar in the first half. The visitors are also winning every ball going at the moment. They're probing Maidenhead's defence without cutting them open right now. 02

50' Maidenhead have been sloppy in possession a couple of times. Giving the ball away needlessly. Rovers are also first to every ball. They look like they want it more right now. 0-2

Back underway at  York Road. Maidenhead attacking down the slope. Hopefully they can use it to their advantage. 0-2

Maidenhead players have been sent out early. They're set to make a couple of changes. Ferguson and Barratt have come off for Carvalho and Abrahams. A couple of attacking changes for the Magpies. They were needed. No changes at the break for Rovers. 0-2

Half-time: Maidenhead United 0-2 Forest Green Rovers. The visitors comfortably ahead at the break. They've controlled this from the opening minutes and Maidenhead have had very few chances of note. Goals from Bunker - who turned home a Quigley cross - and Charlie McCann, who pounced on a dreadful defensive error, have put the visitors two goals to the good. It slightly flatters the home side as well.

45' Kyle McAllister skips through the Maidenhead midfield area far too easily and spreads it wide to Quigley who's cross is blocked behind by Welch-Hayes. Far too easy for Rovers there. 0-2

40' Rovers go close to a third but the home side somehow manage to clear the ball with McCann looking to pounce for a second of the afternoon there. 0-2

38' Speculative effort from Sam Barratt which drifts harmlessly wide. 0-2

37' This is becoming a very, very comfortable afternoon for the visitors. 0-2

35' Second goal for Rovers. Terrible defending by Maidenhead and Will De Havilland in particular which hands Charlie McCann a chance to roll the ball past Craig Ross. That was so bad from the home side. They've given Rovers a leg up here and it's not like the promotion chasers need it. 0-2

30' Maidenhead have weathered the storm a little and are coming back into the game a little. Shawn McCoulsky could have had a shot at goal from just outside the area but he took an extra touch and the chance went begging. Reece Smith then forced a corner. Better from the Magpies. 0-1

22' While they haven't had loads of chances, Rovers have definitely been on top in the opening 20 minutes and deservedly are in front. Knowles has just forced another corner with a rasping volley that Ross turned behind. 0-1

20' Goal for Forest Green Rovers. Maidenhead were sliced open there. Joe Quigley beat his man and rolls the ball across the area for an unmarked Bunker to slam home. So so simple and Maidenhead find themselves 1-0 behind.

18' Decent chance for Rovers, with Harvey Bunker side-footing the ball wide from the right side of the penalty area. He connected with that really sweetly and it can't have missed the post by much. 0-0

16' Casey Pettit lashes the ball narrowly over the bar for the Magpies. The ball fell kindly to him outside the area and that wasn't too far away. Best moment yet for the home side. 0-0

15' Fifteen minutes in and it's been a relatively quiet, flat start. Rovers controlling possession but they're yet to really threaten other than the blocked shot from Knowles. 0-0

7' No real chances of note so far. But the play has settled into a pattern of Rovers seeing  more of the ball and pressing Maidenhead back into their own half. 0-0

4' Maidenhead playing up the slope in the first half. Kicking towards the Bell Street End. They are yet to really threaten despite Sam Barratt slinging in a long throw which Rovers head clear. 0-0

3' Maidenhead got a bit lucky there. Kane Ferdinand caught dawdling on the ball and it's won back by McCann. He plays it in for Knowles but Lokko manages to get a big block on the shot and Maidenhead clear the ball. 0-0

1' Maidenhead press forward in the early seconds and they take on a shot from distance which flies well wide. 0-0

We're going to have a minute's silence before kick off for Remembrance weekend. Maidenhead's former player manager John Dempsey also passed away during the week.

Here come the two teams. Maidenhead in their usual black and white with Rovers in all lime green.

Both teams just going through their pre-match warm ups. We're 15 minutes from kick off here.

Here's a blast from the past. Five years ago.  Where does the time go? Some familiar faces in the background and foreground here including yours truly.

The Magpies warm up for today's clash with Forest Green

Maidenhead United welcome one of the National League's early season pace setters to York Road this afternoon with Forest Green Rovers the visitors. 19th in the table plays host to second, and a win for the visitors could conceivably take them top of the pile. United will be looking to get back to winning ways after last weekend's heartbreaking FA Cup defeat to Crawley Town and their away loss to Yeovil Town the week before that. A much-changed side played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Derby County u21s in the National League Cup, but this is now the bread and butter for the Magpies and they still need points and performances to lift themselves clear of the bottom four
