DAVID ESSEX caused quite a stir at last week’s Henley Literary Festival.
The Seventies pop heart-throb had women queuing outside the Kenton Theatre before his appearance talking about his debut novel, Faded Glory.
Among them was Lorraine Hillier, the Henley coffee shop owner, councillor and former mayor, who is currently single.
She was so excited that she emailed me this photo of her with Essex as he signed books for his fans with accompanying text: “David Essex and I an item (I wish)!”
After calming down, she told me: “He’s still a good-looking man even without his black hair and he’s still got that twinkle in his eye! I’m hoping he’ll come back next year.”
Lorraine said there were “a lot of sighs” from the audience when Essex announced his next tour would be his last, adding: “Hopefully it’s not the last we’ll see of him.”
