People living in a number of care homes in Datchet and surrounding areas enjoyed a coffee morning with ‘creative competition’ judged by the Mayor – raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Longstanding funeral directors Lodge Brothers recently expanded into Datchet, with a pledge to ‘serv[e] not only in times of grief but also in fostering unity and support in the community’.
Hence, it put on a coffee morning and reached out to local care homes, inviting them to participate.
Residents from Eton House, The Manor, Sandown Park, Queen's Court, and Optalis ‘enthusiastically’ joined the competition, submitting their artistic creations.
These now adorn the windows of the Lodge Brothers’ Datchet branch for the community to appreciate.
Hayley Griffiths, the newly appointed funeral arranger at Lodge Brothers Datchet, attended along with Cressida Lodge, representing the eighth generation of the Lodge family.
The Windsor and Maidenhead Mayor, Councillor Neil Knowles, joined as the competition judge and presided over the raffle.
Other councillors and the Archdeacon Reverend Canon Binns from St Mary’s Church also graced the occasion.
Nibbles coffee shop and others contributed cakes and treats, ensuring ‘a delightful spread’.
These collaborative efforts culminated in raising £260 for Macmillan.
