Huggins says embarrassing capitulation has refocused minds for the run in

Windsor skipper Mark Huggins

Mark Huggins will know how the Aussie batsmen were feeling after they were bowled out for just 60 by England in the fourth Ashes test on Thursday.

Two weeks ago his side were chalked out for just 69 runs, chasing North Maids 84, after an ‘embarrassing’ capitulation from 46-2.

But the Windsor skipper, whose side sits 22 points clear of nearest challengers Finchampstead with five matches left to play, says the match has helped refocus players' minds for the run-in.

Saturday saw Windsor bounce back with an excellent performance to take the lion’s share of the points (14) in a home draw against Tring Park 2nds and Huggins says another two, or possibly three, victories should be enough to get them over the line to the title.

“The game at North Maidenhead was a little bit embarrassing, not being able to chase 84,” said Huggins.

“But after I had a few choice words with the boys we didn’t dwell on it and I thought we produced a superb batting performance against Tring Park.

“Mark Lines hit 80 and was superb and Harry Jordan got his first half century which is a nice milestone for the lad.

“Harmeet Chana and Mark Lines bowled superbly with the old ball and they built the pressure so that the wickets naturally started to come. I set an attacking field so they scored quite quickly but when they got to 200 for their batting points it looked like they didn’t want to lose to us.”

Windsor visit OMT tomorrow (Saturday) and Huggins reckons three more wins will see them to the title.

“Two or three more should get us over the line. But after the North Maids game we won’t be underestimating any team.”
