Anonymous artist Impro delivers a sleeping Santa to Sonning

A sleeping Santa has appeared passed-out on a park bench just to the north of Sonning overnight.

The installation is the latest commentary piece by anonymous stunt artist Impro.

It shows a life-size Santa in a red and white suit laying down on a wooden bench in the middle of a roundabout.

The bench’s plaque is inscribed with ‘Death to Impro’ hinting that this may be Impro’s last piece or under this pseudonym at least.

Empty bottles of wine are strewn across the grass on this busy A4155 roundabout and nearby is a tent which clearly states that Santa is not returning to the North Pole any time soon.

Impro said: “Santa makes a lifestyle choice after getting tired of cramming his bulk down chimneys to give spoilt children plastic stuff they neither want or need, only to be faced by the back of a fake gas fire.”

Last December, Impro made another ‘bah humbug’ jibe at Christmas when they placed post boxes in impossible to reach places, including on a roundabout and on the second storey wall of a Sonning building.

Earlier this year Impro stuck a ‘urinal’ just above water level on the pillar of a Thames bridge in a statement about the health of our rivers.

This year’s Santa sits opposite another piece of ‘street art’ which is spray painted on the brick wall of a roadside utility hub. It reads: ‘Art is not what you see, but what you make others see’.
