Lead role in new musical Dreamboats and Miniskirts for Windsor native

The star of a new show at the Theatre Royal in Windsor has come full circle from watching his first ever musical there.

Alex Beaumont, who was born at Heatherwood Hospital, takes the lead role of Bobby in Dreamboats and Miniskirts, which has its world premier at the Thames Street venue on Wednesday.

Produced by Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield in association with Universal Music, the show follows on from the hit Dreamboats and Petticoats.

Alex, who lived in St Leonards Hill and Gallys Road before moving to London, said performing at the Theatre Royal has been something he has dreamt about in the same way actors dream about performing in the West End.

"For me, to be able to play my home town is my absolute dream come true," said the former Royal Borough Youth Opera member.

He added his school friends, family and family friends have already got their tickets to see him in the limelight.

Last year he played the Tinman in DK proDuKtions' performance of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz at the Desborough Suite in Maidenhead.

"That was really good," said the 25-year-old.

"I really enjoyed that show."

The former member of Berkshire Youth Choir said although he had always been interested in singing and acting, it wasn't until he started thinking about university that he decided to go to acting school instead.

Alex attended Clewer Green First School, Dedworth Middle School and Windsor Boys' School before going on to study at the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester.

Since graduating, his credits include Ben Travers in Being Ivor with the Original London Workshop Cast, Prince Valentine in the UK tour of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Aladdin in Aladdin and his Magic Lamp.

The show features a host of 60s hits such as Twist and Shout, Handy Man, Pretty Woman and One Fine Day.

"It is really upbeat, there are lots of big dance numbers and a live band on the stage - they are amazing," said the former Windsor Swimming Club member.

"I love the 60s era of music. It is one of my favourites."

The show runs until August 16.
