Former Hurst school pupil Christian Bale nominated for Oscar

Former Dolphin School pupil Christian Bale has been nominated for an Oscar.

Christian Bale won best supporting actor at the Oscars for his role in The Fighter.

Bale, who was a pupil at the Hurst school between 1979 and 1981, has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in American Hustle.

A spokeswoman for the school in Waltham Road said: "We are thrilled that one of our past pupils has received this nomination, we do follow his career closely."

Bale, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter in 2010, plays con man Irving Rosenfeld in the film released last year.
