A woman was sexually assaulted while walking along The Gullet in Maidenhead this morning.
The victim was approached by an Asian man in a black hooded top as she walked near Brunel Close at about 5.30am.
The attacker, who is described as being in his 20s and has a moustache, pushed the victim over and sexually assaulted her before running away.
Detective Sergeant Peter Wall from Maidenhead CID said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and would urgently like to speak to anyone on this footpath at about this time, or who frequently uses this route.
“I want to reassure the community that incidents like this are extremely rare and we are doing everything to locate and arrest this offender.”
The wooded area and footpath were cordoned off by police this morning but have now been re-opened.
The Gullet is a secluded footpath from Ludlow Road to the Larchfield estate.
