Windsor FC are likely to be under new ownership from next season with director Kevin Stott set to move forward with one of the two takeover proposals currently on the table.
Stott has been involved in talks with a couple of prospective buyers over the past few months, and last month admitted he had two 'compelling' options to choose from as he sought to hand over the running of the Royalists after more than a decade in charge.
One of those interested parties was former manager, Mark Cooper, who together with a consortium of backers has made no secret of his desire to take over from Stott at Stag Meadow. Stott met up with Cooper to run through those proposals, however, it seems from his latest update he's decided not to go down that route and will instead entertain the proposal of two entrepreneurs who he believes has a plan that the 'whole town can get behind’.
A non-disclosure agreement prevents him from revealing too much more about the people bidding for the club, however, Stott has given a few more details on their investment plans.
In summary their focus will include:
Investing into the men's first team to have a fantastic shot at successive promotions up the non-league pyramid.
Launching a women's team for the very first time in Windsor, which we're incredibly excited about.
Working to modernize and develop Stag Meadow into an appropriately sized and sustainable stadium in parallel with the club's onfield progress.
Building a new training facility and investing into a new 3G training pitch.
Working with the youth section to ensure their needs are met within the overall development plan with the aim of giving high-performing youth players a path to their respective senior teams.
The group has also reportedly contacted the Crown Estate over gaining a long-term lease for the ground and facilities at Stag Meadow, something that would enable them to invest in the club's playing facilities and bring in grant money from organisations such as the National Lottery and Football Foundation.
So far, Cooper has decided not to comment on his attempt to buy the club.
Stott has said he hopes to get the details of the sale finalised in the coming months and be in a position to hand over control in time for the start of the new season. The club's director has been involved at Windsor in various roles for 19 years and took ownership of the Royalists when they reformed as Windsor FC in 2011.
In this week's club update Stott said: “As you know, I have been talking to two different groups and have spent a great deal of time and energy considering the relative merits of each proposal. While it was never going to be an easy decision, I am moving forward with two successful entrepreneurs who have a plan that I believe the whole town can get behind and be excited by.
“My sense from hundreds, if not thousands of conversations over the years, is that the town would be excited to back an ambitious, community focused project for a football club that has SO MUCH potential, in one of the most famous destinations in the world, run by people who I think you will feel a strong connection with.
“The team behind that plan has been introduced to the Crown Estate to discuss a potential lease and explore a working partnership that would allow them to take the club forward together.
“It is also my understanding that they will include a parallel lease for the youth section which would grant them use of new facilities, alongside the senior teams.
“I will share further information with you when I have it.”
