More than £770 has been raised through a celebration day to mark the fifth birthday of the refurbished Slough Ice Arena.

The arena, managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Slough Borough Council, is the home of the Jets and the Bees ice hockey teams and has been used to train Dancing on Ice contestants.

For its fifth birthday, the arena organised a celebration day on Friday with proceeds from all the sessions being donated Dementia UK.

Public ice skating sessions, a foam party on ice, family disco skating, and indoor climbing sessions took place on the day at reduced prices to fundraise for the charity.

Children also got the opportunity to meet well-known characters Poppy the Troll and Spider-Man.

A total of £774 was raised for Dementia UK, which is Everyone Active’s chosen corporate charity.

The arena was built in 1986, but, after closing its doors for a major refurbishment in 2016, the new £7.7million centre was opened in April 2018.

Following its re-opening, almost 350,000 people have attended the arena for public skating. Almost 25,000 have also tried out the Clip ‘n’ Climb walls, which were a new addition to the site.

Slough Ice Arena is also home to three synchronised skating teams and the SPICE club, which provides ice skating lessons for children and young adults with additional needs.

Luke Routhorn, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re so pleased that so many people came along to support such a great cause.

“It’s been a fantastic five years for Slough Ice Arena. It’s a first-class venue with lots of activities on offer. We also play host to several ice hockey teams and filming for Dancing on Ice – helping to raise the profile of the rink and the town.”
