An aspiring young footballer from Burnham is helping to fundraise for the NHS by creating a series of YouTube workout videos with Sunderland player Luke O’Nien.
Ethan Carpenter, 10, who is currently signed by Fulham FC's Academy, first featured alongside the League 1 player in a workout video which went out on YouTube on Monday morning. It has since been watched more than 9,500 times.
Luke, who formerly played for Wycombe Wanderers and is currently in a relationship with Ethan’s sister Georgia Casey, teamed up with Future You International, a company offering services for health and wellbeing for the venture and delivers the workout videos through their YouTube channel.
Luke and Ethan are currently living together and have done the workouts during the lockdown.
The workout videos are currently shown at 10am, and feature the pair performing a range of exercises including the jumping jacks and jump lunges. They hope to raise £5,000 for the NHS.
Ethan’s mum Vicky Carpenter said: “Both of them have always worked out.
“They don’t get to see each other very often because we live in Burnham and they live in Sunderland.
“[Ethan’s] school have shared it with all of his classmates and he’s been sharing it with his friends and his football friends as well, that have all been doing it so it’s been lovely for them.
She added: “It was just an opportunity to raise money for the NHS.
“The boys just said 'look, if we can do this, and we can raise some money from it, and it’s all for a good cause, let’s do it'.
“Everyone is locked in and it’s so important to exercise.
“We’ve had friends emailing us pictures of the kids taking part and you can see Ethan on the screen and his little friends all round them doing their exercises, its lovely and a great way for them to connect with each other because for little kids, it’s hard for them not to see their friends.”
“They have 10 days worth of videos but they (Ethan and Luke) said if it continues, and people continue to go onto YouTube to do them, they will continue to keep making them.”
The Virgin Money Giving page set up by Luke has currently raised more than £1,700.
