Thousands of visitors toured the dazzling trees and voted for their favourite creations at the 14th annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Luke’s Church.
The Norfolk Road church was filled with real trees and twinkling lights for visitors to see between Friday, December 5 and Sunday, December 7.
There were 71 colourful trees on display, sponsored and decorated by voluntary groups, local businesses, churches, schools, families, charities and key figures.
The trees included entries from Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Maidenhead Civic Society, Norden Farm, St Lukes Primary School, St Piran’s School, Maidenhead Music Society, Pines Veterinary Clinic and 8th Maidenhead Guides.
Thames Valley Adventure Playground (TVAP) and Craft Coop joined forces to decorate a tree, which sat among creations by Alzheimers Dementia Support, Inclusive Church, Maidenhead Women’s Institute, Sorbon Estates and Thames Valley Animal Welfare. Royal Borough Mayor Cllr Mandy Brar and Maidenhead MP Josh Reynolds also had trees on display.
Visitors could also write a prayer on an angel and hang it on the Prayer Tree or write the names of lost loved ones on tags to put into the Memory Tree.
The Memory Tree will stay in the church throughout the Christmas period.
Pupils from Riverside Primary School and Nursery, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, St Piran’s School and Claires Court visited the church to see the trees on Thursday, December 4, ahead of the start of the popular festival.
During the event, visitors got the opportunity to vote for their favourite tree by putting tokens into a pot dedicated to each tree.
This year all the money raised from voting for the best decorated tree will be donated to Alzheimers Dementia Support (ADS).
ADS is a local independent charity which supports those with dementia in Maidenhead, Windsor, Ascot, Slough, Langley and the surrounding villages.
Guests enjoyed stalls and refreshments throughout the festival and could enter a seasonal raffle and be in with a chance of receiving a food hamper for first prize.
A closing service was held among the trees on Sunday evening, which was attended by Royal Borough mayor Cllr Mandy Brar.
Jacqueline Lewis, churchwarden, St Luke’s Church PCC, said: “It was really wonderful to welcome over 3,000 people, including children from local primary schools to the festival.
“The creativity and good spirit of our sponsors was amazing and as a result our church was filled with beautiful trees and a joyous atmosphere. We are pleased to have raised a super amount for our chosen charity, ADS.
“It was a very special and heartwarming way to anticipate Christmas day and our celebration of the birth of Christ.”
