A global biotechnology company has opened its new UK and Ireland headquarters in Maidenhead.

Biogen UK, the UK arm of Biogen, helps research and develop treatments for conditions including Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Its new offices at Building Five in Foundation Park, Roxborough Way, will support Biogen’s international operations as well as its work in the UK and Ireland where it employs 250 people.

Vice president and general manager of Biogen UK and Ireland Dr Kylie Bromley said:

“I am so proud of what we have been able to accomplish with this move, which not only provides a modern workplace for our employees but also signifies Biogen’s commitment to the life science industry in the UK”.

As part of the move to its new offices, Biogen UK employees held a furniture sale that raised almost £17,000 for The Link Foundation – a Marlow-based children’s charity.

“I am delighted that we have been able to support our local community throughout our office move,” said Dr Bromley.

“As a company that strives to care deeply, it is important to us that we can give back at any opportunity.”

The company has also donated IT equipment and furniture to schools and other organisations in the area.

The Link Foundation chairman Una Loughrey said:

“This donation arrives at a moment of unparalleled hardship, particularly for numerous local families striving to provide for their children while grappling with persistent poverty.

“The funds provided by Biogen will be instrumental in buying essential necessities such as food, clothing, bedding, cots, refrigerators, washing machines, and various other vital items.

"These resources will provide invaluable support to families contending with the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, so once again, thank you.”

Biogen describes itself as ‘a leading global biotechnology company that pioneers science and drives innovations for complex and devastating diseases’.

It was founded in 1978 by five men including two Nobel Prize winners, Walter Gilbert and Philip Sharp.

The UK branch began operations in the 1990s and was based at Innovation House in Norden Road, Maidenhead, for 15 years prior to its relocation.

An official opening ceremony was held last month and was attended by Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care Lord Markham.

Lord Markham said: “I was delighted to open Biogen’s new headquarters.

“We continue to back our thriving life sciences sector, with over £1.2 billion in funding committed in 2023, reaffirming our position as a life sciences superpower and a centre for ground-breaking research.”
