More than 200 children learned an important public health message at a sporting event last week.
Primary schools across Maidenhead took part in two Active 60 Festivals designed to achieve the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation of completing 60 ‘active’ minutes a day.
Six schools including Boyne Hill Infant, St Edmund Campion, St Marys, Furze Platt Infant, Holyport and Alwyn Infant were involved in a series of fun physical challenges, designed for agility, balance and co-ordination.
The event for five to seven-year-olds on Friday, June 16 was delivered by Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership.
For many this was their first school competition.
Emma Fitzgerald, Partnership Development Manager at the organisation said: “They had endless energy and should be very proud of themselves.
"What I love about this event is how inclusive it is – being able to take a whole class of children.
"The variety of activity, and fast pace held their imagination, and the smiles on their faces suggested they had a great time.”
The Active 60 Festivals took place on the netball courts at Courthouse Junior School and was supported by a team of young sports leaders from Newlands Girls’ School.
The event focussed on participation and all children were rewarded with an “I achieved 60 Active Minutes today” certificate.
