Heathens land home tie with Bracknell Town in FA Cup after Soul Tower triumph

Flackwell Heath’s reward for their resilient display and victory at Soul Tower Hamlets FC on Saturday is a home draw against Southern League Premier South side Bracknell Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Heathens managed to battle past their step 5 hosts on Saturday thanks to second half goals from Jack Shakespeare and Harlem Hale, and they’ve been handed an exciting - if tough - home draw against the Robins at Wilks Park on Saturday, September 27.

Bracknell began their own new era last week, with Matthew Saunders coming in to replace Jordan Ive as manager at Bottom Meadow.

Saunders made the perfect start to his tenure at the weekend as Bracknell got the better of Tadley Calleva in the FA Cup second qualifying round with second half goals from Sam Magri (60') and Alfie Pavey (71').

Ive departed as manager with the Robins sitting 20th in the Premier South table with only one win from their first six league matches.

Flackwell meanwhile have been going along very nicely in the Southern League Central Division. They sit ninth in the table but due to cup commitments have only played three league matches so far, winning two of them and drawing the other.

Slough Town were also in this afternoon’s third qualifying round draw at Wembley, and they’ll host Isthmian League South Central Division side Bedfont Sports if they can get past Welling United in tomorrow evening’s replay at Arbour Park (Tuesday).

The Rebels had been looking likely to advance in the competition after Peter Ojemen’s goal late in the first half had put them ahead at Park View Road on Saturday, however, a late penalty from Jack Paxman ensured that the tie would have to be settled by a mid-week replay.

Maidenhead United are not in the draw following Saturday’s disappointing and largely undeserved 1-0 defeat to step 4 side Faversham Town at York Road.

Faversham have been handed another tough draw at Ebbsfleet United.

The 40 ties will take place across the weekend of Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28. No new teams will be entering the competition at this stage.

Winning clubs in the third-round qualifying will pick up £5625 from the FA prize fund and losing teams will collect £1875

One of the ties in the third-round qualifying will be selected by the BBC for live broadcast coverage, with details of that fixture to be confirmed in due course.
