Muslims across Maidenhead, Windsor and Slough are gearing up for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The festival marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and commences after the sighting of a crescent moon.
The Ramadan period sees Muslims across the globe fast from dawn until dusk for about a month.
The three-day Eid al-Fitr celebrations will begin after the sighting of a new moon and festivities will see families and friends gather to enjoy food, celebration and exchange gifts.
With celebrations due to start soon, a host of events have been planned across the community.
MAIDENHEAD: Two thousand people are expected to join Eid al-Fitr celebrations hosted by The Islamic Education Centre Maidenhead (TIECM) at Kidwells Park.
A large congregational prayer will take place and will be followed by a sermon.
Light refreshments will also be on offer.
Guests can enter from 8am, with the main congregational prayer taking place at 9am.
Attendees are encouraged to use public transport to get to the event.
Parking will be available in various locations including the Hines Meadow and West Street car parks.
In the event of poor weather, indoor congregational prayers will take place at TIECM’s mosque on Cookham Road, and details will be available on their website and social media platforms.
MAIDENHEAD: Worshippers at Maidenhead Mosque will be observing Eid prayers as they mark the start of the celebrations.
Almost 2,000 attendees are expected at the mosque, staggered over four sittings.
There will be plenty of festivities, food, sweet stalls and cake for guests to enjoy.
Zia Mahiudin, a trustee of Maidenhead Mosque, said: “Everybody will be looking forward to visiting their loved ones, exchanging presents, enjoying good food, wearing new clothes.
“We would like to take this occasion to wish everyone in the community a very happy Eid and we pray for everyone's health and happiness, success and prosperity [at] this blessed time and most of all thank you for all your support.”
Zia said the mosque is currently concentrating on the development of its new community centre, which is ‘on its next phase of internal works now’.
He added: “We are anticipating having it ready for next year’s Eid celebrations with the help and generous support of our community.”
WINDSOR: An Eid in Windsor Park celebration with the Windsor Central Mosque and Darul Arqam Academy will take place next week.
The event will start with a prayer at 9am, followed by a sermon in Dedworth Manor Park in Hanover Way.
There will be plenty of treats to enjoy, including ice cream and a bouncy castle.
Guests are asked to bring their own prayer mat and free parking will be available.
SLOUGH: Eid prayers will be taking place next week at the Central Jamia Masjid in Slough.
The mosque in Diamond Road will host four prayer sittings.
The first will take place at 8am, followed by the second at 9am.
The third prayer will take place at 10am and the fourth will be at 10.45am.
