Windsor and Maidenhead council has responded to a petition calling for the reinstatement of a waste bin on the Thames Path near Islet Park.

The petition by Alex McGowan was submitted to the Royal Borough earlier this month and states that a waste bin and a dog waste bin were both removed in late June.

The petition added: “Local residents are generally considerate with their waste and dog waste, with the previous bins often overflowing with waste.

“Now, much of this will not be taken home with people. Instead, we will see increases in dog waste and discarded dog waste bags as well as an increase in litter from river and Thames Path users.”

The petition has received support online from the Maidenhead Reform branch, which has hit out at the issue regarding the bins.

However, the council has responded to the calls and stated that the bin has been relocated to the closer to the road at the end of the path to enable it be emptied ‘safely and more regularly’.

A council spokesperson added: “Alternatively, dog walkers can use any public bin to dispose of bagged dog waste.

“We encourage dog walkers to be thoughtful of other residents and the environment, and to clean up after their pets as necessary.”

The e-petition has so far been signed by more than 100 people and will run until Sunday, August 31.
