Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and accept the opposition played better, and that was the case for Windsor captain Adam Allen-Turner after his side were beaten at Marlow on Saturday.
The Windsor skipper didn’t think his side did that much wrong, as the hosts’ tail wagged furiously to get them to 291-9 from their 50 overs. Windsor’s reply was going along nicely until Adam Weston (44) pulled his groin as the visitors were bowled out 85 runs short of their target.
Reflecting on what’s been a topsy-turvy start to their campaign, Adam-Turner said: “We’re not getting hammered by anyone. We’ve been in every game we’ve played so far. We’re scoring runs and taking wickets.
“But everyone just needs to raise their game by two per cent. We’ve just been slightly off it.”
Windsor appeared to be closing in on a second straight victory in Division 2A, when they had Marlow right where they wanted them at 150-7, however, Nick Paskins (58) and Gary Lines (64) fired off a rearguard assault to put Marlow back in the driving seat. Jamie Hall was Windsor’s best wicket taker, finishing with figures of 4-47.
“There is a short boundary at Marlow and their lower order took advantage of it,” said the captain.
“At one stage we had them at 150-7 so to let them get 290 is too many, but we didn’t do that much wrong.
“They didn’t give us many chances and I don’t feel we could have done much more. They were just better than us to be fair. Sometimes the lower order does better than the top order and that’s what happened on Saturday.
“We were just getting into our stride when Westo (Adam Weston) pulled his groin and we were then caught out trying to play big shots. But Marlow were more consistent than us and their lower order won it for them.”
Sixth placed Windsor host OMT today (Saturday).
