The Haven of Rest Almshouses in Maidenhead recently welcomed Royal Borough mayor Cllr Mandy Brar to celebrate its 130th anniversary.
The retirement complex in Bridge Road recently the milestone with a garden party for residents.
The event was organised and hosted by chair Jo Thomas and the trustees, who welcomed the mayor and her consort Harry Brar as their special guests.
Attendees enjoyed an afternoon tea and raised a glass to toast the occasion as Cllr Brar cut a celebration cake.
George Herring, an eminent philanthropist, founded the Haven of Rest.
He was born in Clerkenwell in 1833 and later lived in Bridge House in Maidenhead.
George was at his Bedfordshire residence when he passed away, but the urn containing his ashes was buried under the sundial in the garden at the Haven of Rest.
