One of Maidenhead Athletic Club's (MAC) most promising junior sprinters competed at the English Schools Athletics Association Championships in Manchester this month.

Callum Presnail won his heat in the 100m but fell just 0.05seconds off qualifying for the final. He was back on the track for the 4x100m relay, but some changeover issues led to the team coming third in their heat and failing to make it to the latter stages.

Leila Oliver was one of several MAC athletes to take part in the u13s Southern Athletics League in Biggleswade on Saturday last week (July 16).

MAC mustered 72 points across the various events, finishing fifth out of the six teams that took part.

On one of the hottest weekends of the year, a small MAC travelled to take part and Rhys Feaviour kicked things off in the pole vault, clearing 2.20m for his best result of the season so far.

Rhys returned to jump a new personal best in the high jump, as did Fillipo D’Orazio. Tim Williams competed in the long jump, sprints, and javelin, showing what a versatile athlete he is, while Herve made his debut for the club, claiming a new personal best in the 5,000m despite the soaring temperatures.

Jon Oliver and Robin Hawkins once again competed across the field events, throwing the shot put, javelin, discus, and javelin. Jon also won valuable points for the team in the 2,000m steeplechase, breaking a club record that was previously held by teammate Robin. The men's 4x100m and 4x400m then regrouped to earn the club further points Leila competed and officiated at the event, racing in the 1,500m and competing in the shot put, while officiating the high jump.

On Sunday, Mia Keating and Jack Hinchy swapped their MAC vests for Berkshire ones as they competed for their county in the South of England inter county championships.

Mia was selected for the discus and Jack for the shot and discus. It was a great experience for them to compete against all 10 of the Southern counties and Mia achieved a pb of 15.25m in the discus to finish fifth overall.

Jack also finished fifth in both of his events, throwing 18.25m in the discus and 7.29m in the shot. Those points helped Berkshire's girls finish in second place with Berkshire's boys in third place.

MAC's Zoe, Isabella and Olivia all achieved pbs at the Alder Valley League u11s girls meeting this month.

The trio beat their previous bests in the 75m, with Olivia equalling the club record of 12.3 seconds. She also finished two seconds off a club record in the 600m.

A small, but fantastically enthusiastic team also competed in the u13s girls’ events.

There were pbs in the high jump for Scarlett and Izzy, and a pb for Jude in the Javelin. Vivienne, Izzy, and Scarlett all produced new bests in the long jump, while Izzy and Vivienne ran well in the 75m hurdles and Mia was third in the shot putt.
