Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla led the Royal Procession for the first time on Tuesday to kick off the Royal Ascot 2023.
They carried on Queen Elizabeth II’s tradition of attending the five-day flat racing festival, which ends tomorrow (Saturday).
The royals have taken on the late monarch’s thoroughbreds as she had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign.
On day one, footage of the Queen’s most memorable moments at the Royal Ascot was cast on big screens.
This week, a photographic exhibition in the grandstand has showcased images of the Queen from Royal Ascot over the years.
In memory of her commitment to the event, Saturday’s Platinum Jubilee Stakes has also been renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori guided Gregory to a popular length-and-a-half success in the G2 Queen’s Vase, getting his first win in the 13th race at this year’s event.
Dettori retires this year, after a career spanning five decades, with his first Royal Ascot winner coming 33 years ago.
He said: “It's my last Royal Ascot and to ride a winner is fantastic. It's amazing the reception I got because it's my last season – I'm both sad and happy. I've got another three days here and it's nice to get one on the board.”
Dettori enjoyed further success, raicing to victory to win his ningth Golf Cup on Courage Mon Ami today (Thursday).
Today was also the ever-popular Ladies’ Day and race-goers donned their best outfits.
Racegoers paid tribute to the new monarch as they showcased their eccentric headgear.
Hats and fascinators with striking and colourful embellishments worn on Ladies’ Day were inspired by the King’s accession to the throne.
