Burnham’s second Pride event is taking place on Saturday, July 29 and is ‘bigger and better’ than last year, according to organiser Ellis Brickley.
Four acts from London Pride will perform throughout the day, including David Allwood, the recently crowned Mr Gay Great Britain.
Starting at 2pm, Burnham Pride will bring colour, music and dance to the village but it will also highlight serious messages about representation and inclusion.
Ellis, who is the Club Secretary at Burnham Royal British Legion, where Burnham Pride will be based, has been developing the programme for months.
Ellis said: “It’s been a whirlwind this year as more people are coming on board. It’s definitely bigger and better than last year.
“The day starts at 2pm and the first act goes on at 2.30 and we’ve got entertainment and music on all the way through until midnight.
“We’ve got charity stalls in our main hall from 2 until 5pm. Sexual health charities, local youth organisations that represent inclusivity and diversity and the transgender society, the Beaumont Society, will be there as well.
“Creative Academy are back with their students and are teaming up with Homoparody again.
“In the evening we’ve got Luna Cortez, one of the best drag artists around, doing two new sets for us as well.”
Funding has come from Burnham Royal British Legion and Creative Academy.
“All four big acts that performed at London Pride are now performing for us. They are all willing to help,” added Ellis.
“David Allwood, Mr Gay Great Britain, he is the leader of the Homoparody dance group and he said he would come again. He is running for another big title, Mr Gay Europe, as well.
Organisations such as Buckinghamshire Scouts and the Buckinghamshire South Liberal Democrats will be giving out their messages of inclusion on the day.
Anna Crabtree, of the Buckinghamshire South Liberal Democrats, said: "The message we will want to communicate is what the Lib Dems stand for and that we have long fought for LGBT+ rights. [This is] best summed up by the preamble to our constitution: 'the Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity'."
“The day is going to be so entertaining and full of information at the same time,” added Ellis.
“We’ve had a huge, huge following since last year and it’s three time the size what it was last year.
“It’s fantastic, from having nothing to having something and now the support from last year has generated it to be even bigger this year.”
Burnham Pride 2023 is a free event, open to all. Tommy’s Bespoke Catering will be serving food and music will be provided by DJ Cam Lake.
