Queen will unveil jubilee tribute by schoolgirl

The Queen is to unveil Windsor's diamond jubilee tribute.

The tribute will take the form of a spiral of 60 spheres rising upwards and will take pride of place in King Edward Court.

It was designed by Windsor Girls' School pupil Caroline Basra, who beat 40 other competitors of all ages.

Since she was announced as the winner 18 months ago, the big event itself has come and gone.

But the news that the Queen will unveil the tribute on October 9 has revived jubilee fever in the town. Andrew Melville, who chaired the jubilee committee of Windsor and Eton Society which organised the competition to find a design for the tribute, said: "It is absolutely thrilling."
